Doors open day 2026 - Edinburgh Quaker Meeting House
About the meeting house
Edinburgh’s Quaker Meeting House was built as the United Original Secession Church in 1865. The building was sold to the Boys Brigade in 1956 and was then modified by Basil Spence Architects. It has been in Quaker hands since 1987. It stands at the foot of Upper Bow, on Victoria Terrace, enjoying views of Victoria Street and across the city towards the Pentlands. The exterior is a fine example of Italian Revival style. The Meeting House is well-used by Quakers and the wider community.
PEWG Discerned Priorities 2026-2028
Some good news from the Parliamentary Engagement Working Group (PEWG). There will be four new members joining the committee in 2026 and the priorities for 2026-2028 have been agreed, and can be seen on the website among QiS papers for 5 November.
Scottish Reparations for Slavery
Open meeting with Irene Mosota (Chair, Edinburgh Slavery and Colonialism Legacy Review) and Edwina Peart (Quaker Inclusion and Diversity Coordinator).
Drawing on Quaker practices, this event addresses the legacy of slavery and colonialism in Scotland, and considers potential routes to reparations.
